Hello and thank you for visiting my page! My name is Veronique.

I am a General Surgery Resident, an Osteopathic Physician, a US Army Captain, and Wife to an amazing, highly esteemed husband.

As a child growing up in Cameroon I admired the doctors I met, as they were not very many, but my biggest fascination was with the surgeons who took out my appendix when I was fourteen years old, at Hope Hospital in Kumba.
I never dreamed of becoming a Surgeon, at the time it seemed like an impossible feat, but today, almost twenty years later, I am on the path to performing surgeries like the one I received from those amazing doctors many years ago!

My favorite pastimes are Football (Soccer), Music (Singing/Listening) and Storytelling (Writing/Reading/Listening), and Exploring (Travel and Food), in that order. One of the things I have enjoyed throughout my journey to becoming a Physician and Surgeon is reading and listening to stories told by various people, from literary giants to obscure novelists, especially medical stories told in beautiful prose. My dream is to tell stories, of myself, my community and my patients, to help people understand various aspects of their own health better, give a voice to discussions people may not think of having, and allow us to find community in others, even as we stand in our own uniqueness.

As I continue to navigate the American Healthcare System, as a Student, Resident Physician and hopefully one day an Attending Physician and Surgeon, I hope you will come on this journey with me. I hope to share stories of my highlights and lowlights, lessons learned and tidbits that might prove useful to anyone who joins for the ride. Thank you in advance for your readership, support and prayers, and I look forward to contributing something hopefully special to your life, as I know you will to mine.
Sincerely,
Veronique Bijou
